Annette Crook, Bolsover Camera Club
Founded in 1952 by three friends with a shared passion for photography, Bolsover Camera Club has grown into a welcoming, inclusive community of photographers from all walks of life. Under the guidance of members like Annette Crook, the club has stayed true to its founding values: passion, community, and creativity.
Whether you’re a beginner with a smartphone or a seasoned professional with decades of experience, the club offers a space to learn, share, and connect. With weekly meetups, guest speakers, and group activities, members are encouraged to grow their skills and enjoy photography in a supportive environment.
Over the years, the club has earned local, regional, national and international recognition, a testament to the quality of its members and the strength of its community. Bolsover Camera Club is also a proud member of the North and East Midlands Photographic Federation and affiliated with the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.
In 2025, the club proudly partnered with the Bolsover Place Programme and Eleven Design to create four brand-new Walking Guides for the area.
Each guide, designed as a fun treasure hunt, features stunning photography captured entirely by club members, bringing local stories and landscapes to life through the lens.
Annette and many of the club’s members have lived in Bolsover all their lives, and their deep-rooted love for the district shines through. Favourite spots include the Back Hills walk, nature reserves, and the sight of Bolsover Castle silhouetted against the skyline at sunset.
The club sees Bolsover as a place that embraces its heritage while continually evolving, with growing town centre businesses, brilliant community events, and access to countryside and culture right on the doorstep.
Three words to describe Bolsover? Heritage. Hospitable. Rural.
“I believe in Bolsover because it has a proven record of adapting and bouncing back from changes in fortune, with well-planned redevelopment and a strong sense of pride in its past.”
