Iain McBride is the founder of Juggling Octopus, a business support company dedicated to helping organisations achieve their full potential.

A Bolsover resident for almost five years, Iain has developed a strong connection to the district, drawn to its people, scenery, and sense of opportunity. His motivation for becoming a Place Champion comes from a desire to give back to the area and help ensure local businesses have access to the right support at the right time.

Through Juggling Octopus, Iain and his team work with businesses to tackle the challenges they don’t always have the capacity or specialist skills to manage alone. By combining in-house expertise with a wider professional network, they help organisations overcome barriers, build confidence, and grow sustainably.

The impact of this approach was recognised recently when Juggling Octopus was nominated for Small Business of the Year at the East Midlands Chamber Awards, following an exceptional year of growth.

Supporting local is at the heart of everything Iain does. With team members based across Derby and the surrounding area, Juggling Octopus has already helped build a vibrant business community, something Iain is passionate about replicating in the Bolsover District. The company runs its own networking groups, including a WhatsApp community of more than 200 businesses, encouraging people to share challenges, offer support, and collaborate openly.

Beyond commercial work, Iain and his team are committed to giving back. They regularly support local schools and provide free advice and voluntary support wherever possible, reinforcing the belief that strong communities are built on generosity and shared success.

Iain is keen to see Bolsover continue showcasing its strengths — from green spaces and skilled roles to its growing reputation as a place to live, work, and invest. He believes it’s vital the district continues the momentum built over the past decade and gains the recognition it deserves.

Outside of work, Iain enjoys exploring the area with his daughter and their cocker spaniel, Rosie. Favourite spots include Creswell Crags, the Welbeck Estate, and the many local pathways and cycling routes that continue to surprise them.

For Iain, the greatest asset Bolsover has is simple.
