Nick Cutts, OPUS Music CIC

Nick Cutts leads OPUS Music CIC, a Bolsover-based Community Interest Company with a powerful mission: to integrate music into health and social care to improve the wellbeing of individuals, communities, and professionals across the UK.

Founded as a non-profit in 2000 and specialising in Music in Healthcare from 2010, OPUS has since evolved into a national leader in its field. Drawing inspiration from European pioneers like Musique & Santé in France, the organisation’s work is rooted in the belief that access to music is a fundamental human right—especially for those in care.

In 2023, OPUS was recognised as a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) by Arts Council England, affirming its role in delivering high-quality, culturally rich arts practice in healthcare settings throughout the East Midlands and beyond.

While their work now spans the national and international stage, Nick and the OPUS team remain committed to their roots in Bolsover. Through co-created projects with patients, carers, healthcare workers, and community members, OPUS makes music a vital part of daily life in health and care environments. From hospitals and hospices to homes and day centres, their impact is deeply felt, and growing.

Nick's strong connection to Bolsover runs through generations. His great-grandfather’s 50 years of service to local brass bands, and his grandparents’ proud participation in Remembrance Day parades, are personal reminders of the area’s rich cultural heritage. It’s this legacy—and the future it inspires—that fuels his pride in the district.

From regional panels and Integrated Care Boards to national movements like Social Prescribing and Music for Dementia, Nick champions Bolsover as a place of innovation, resilience, and care.

His favourite spot? Hardwick Hall, a stunning blend of heritage and nature, perfect for all ages.
His three words to describe Bolsover? Proud. Green. Caring.

"Bolsover is part of me, as it is for much of its community, whether they’ve been here for 50 days or 50 years."
