As a self-employed artist, Rachel is passionate about the role creativity plays in bringing people together. For her, feeling connected to the local community is essential — and art is one of the most powerful ways to create those connections, spark conversation, and encourage people to see places differently.

Rachel actively supports the local area by attending events, opening her studio to visitors, and working as a freelance artist. By welcoming people into her creative space, she helps make art more accessible and encourages others to engage with culture on their doorstep.

She would love to see Bolsover continue to invest in creative spaces, with the addition of a dedicated arts centre to support local artists and inspire future generations.

Rachel’s favourite places include Pleasley Pit, Glapwell Nurseries, and Dobbies — spots that reflect the district’s blend of heritage, nature, and everyday life. What she values most is Bolsover’s abundance of open space, offering inspiration, breathing room, and balance.

She sees Bolsover as a place shaped by its past but full of opportunity for growth and cultural development.

Three words to describe Bolsover?
Rural. Historic. Evolving.

“It has a lot of potential to improve the culture, and the people are lovely and welcoming.”
