Tyler Turner, Poet, Facilitator and PhD Researcher
As Writer-in-Residence for the Cultural Corridor and Lead Writer for the Bolsover Young Writers’ Group at Bolsover Castle, Tyler uses creative writing to amplify working-class voices, celebrate local heritage, and inspire artistic ownership of place.
Their work focuses on creative engagement, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find expression and pride in their local area. Whether it’s through poetry workshops, storytelling sessions or collaborative arts projects, Tyler’s goal is simple: to make Bolsover a place where people feel seen, heard and inspired.
Collaborating with organisations such as English Heritage, Bolsover District Council, Writing East Midlands, and Junction Arts, Tyler designs and delivers projects that bring together culture, community, and creativity. These partnerships are key to making the arts more accessible, relevant, and representative of local voices.
From exploring heritage sites like Creswell Crags and Pleasley Pit, to relaxing with their cats near Hillstown Village Hall, Tyler finds inspiration in the landscapes and legacy of the area.
Their work is driven by three guiding values: Community, Heritage, and Arts.
And what they love most about Bolsover?
“The heritage, the community, the arts.”
Tyler believes in Bolsover because its people care deeply, and because—finally—people are starting to listen to what they have to say.
