Bolsover District Council and Nottingham Trent University (NTU) are proud to announce that the Bolsover Net Zero Innovation Programme has been named Winner of the Upskilling and Training Initiative of the Year at the prestigious edie Net-Zero Awards.
Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), the Bolsover Net Zero Innovation Programme delivers a comprehensive package of support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and sole traders across the Bolsover district. The initiative combines bespoke on-site audits, carbon management workshops, consultancy, and sustainability networking events to help businesses reduce carbon emissions, cut operational costs, and enhance their competitiveness in a low-carbon economy.

Delivered by NTU’s Nottingham Business School, the School of Architecture, Design & the Built Environment, and the Knowledge Exchange Team, the programme has supported dozens of businesses in developing impactful carbon reduction plans and identifying affordable retrofitting opportunities.
Alice Veldtman, speaking on behalf of the NTU team, said:
“We are delighted that the Net Zero Innovation Programme delivered by Nottingham Trent University in collaboration with Bolsover District Council has been recognised by the edie Net-Zero Awards in the category of Upskilling and Training Initiative of the Year. Together, we are demonstrating that with the right combination of expertise and support, businesses of all sizes and sectors can accelerate decarbonisation while realising business benefits.”
This award highlights the strength of collaboration between local government and education in driving forward the UK’s net-zero ambitions. It also affirms Bolsover District Council’s commitment to supporting its business community in achieving sustainable growth.

As part of the programme, eligible businesses can now apply for the Net Zero Growth Grant Scheme, which offers financial support for decarbonisation projects that contribute to job creation or retention. Grants are available for initiatives such as energy-efficient upgrades, low-carbon technologies, and sustainable business improvements. Applications are open now and will close once funding capacity is reached, so early submission is strongly encouraged.
