We understand that residents may have questions about the £15 million investment secured for Bolsover District through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund. With hoarding recently installed around the former Coop building in Bolsover town centre, speculation has increased - and we want to provide clarity.
This funding has not disappeared. It is being actively invested across eight major regeneration projects throughout the District. These projects are designed to improve town centres, support local businesses, enhance public spaces, and create new opportunities for residents.
What’s Been Happening Behind the Scenes?
Significant work has taken place over the past year to prepare each site for development. This includes:
Detailed site surveys and feasibility studies
Legal and ownership negotiations
Planning and design work
Engagement with national partners including Arts Council England and EMCCA
Coordination with contractors and delivery teams
While much of this work is not immediately visible, it is essential to ensure that each project is delivered successfully and sustainably.
Where the Investment Is Going
The £15 million is being used to deliver improvements in:
Bolsover town centre, including the former Coop building
Shirebrook Market Place
Business and creative space development
Skills, training, and enterprise support
Community and cultural hubs
You can find full details of each project on our Regeneration Projects page.
Next Steps
As we move into the delivery phase, residents will begin to see more visible progress on the ground. We remain committed to keeping the public informed and involved as each project develops.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Jane Yates said: “We thank the community for your patience during this stage of the regeneration. We are committed to providing the district with a bright future and the plans we have will hopefully provide a boost for the local area.”
We thank the community for its patience and continued interest, and we look forward to working together to shape a vibrant future for Bolsover District.
