A new shopfront improvement scheme has been launched in Bolsover. Bolsover District Council has launched the scheme thanks to £15million regeneration funding that will support a range of projects across the district through to Spring 2028, with this scheme focused on bringing fresh energy to Bolsover town centre.

The scheme offers support to eligible businesses to improve the look and feel of their shopfronts and building facades. It’s all about restoring the town’s historic charm, encouraging more people to visit, and helping local shops stand out. Over time, these improvements will help boost footfall, reduce anti-social behaviour, and build pride in the town centre.

Bolsover’s high street is shaped by independent retailers, family-run shops, and local entrepreneurs, many of whom have been part of the town’s story for generations. This scheme is one way the Council is backing those businesses, helping them stay visible, competitive, and proud of their place in the community.

Whether it’s a fresh coat of paint, new signage, or a full shopfront makeover, the improvements are designed to make a real difference to the street scene and visitor experience. Each eligible property is being assessed individually to determine the level of support needed to deliver the biggest impact.

Councillor Tom Munro, Cabinet Member for Growth, said:

“We know how important it is for our town centre to look and feel the part. This scheme gives local businesses the chance to refresh their shopfronts and be part of Bolsover’s wider regeneration story. It’s about pride, visibility, and making sure our high street reflects the quality of the people and businesses within it.”

Application details have already been shared directly with eligible businesses. In the meantime, shop owners are encouraged to start thinking creatively about the improvements they’d like to make - whether it’s restoring original features, updating signage, or giving their frontage a fresh new look.
