Mortgage 1st are no strangers to national recognition, but winning the Business Community Award at this year’s Best of Bolsover Awards holds a special meaning for the family-run firm.

“This year we have won a number of national industry awards but being recognised in the Best of Bolsover Awards is extra special for us as it’s recognising the work we are doing to support schools and young people in our local area. We feel very proud and were honoured to be presented with the award,” shared Lisa Stones.

Helping families onto the property ladder

Based in the heart of the Bolsover district, Mortgage 1st provide mortgage, protection, and specialist lending advice to clients nationwide. While their reach extends across the UK, their roots remain firmly local.

“We love helping local customers onto the property ladder. House prices in Bolsover continue to remain affordable compared to many other parts of the country, which makes for a thriving market as more and more families choose to call it home,” Lisa explained.

Giving back through education and opportunity

Mortgage 1st are committed to more than just business growth, they’re passionate about shaping futures. One of their standout community contributions is delivering financial literacy lessons in local schools. Lisa personally teaches sessions on mortgages, savings, salaries, and repayments, equipping young people with real-life skills that can guide their financial decisions for years to come.

The business also proudly supported The Bolsover School mock interviews day, where Lisa recalls being deeply impressed by the confidence and ambition of the Year 10 students.

“One young man in particular interviewed better than some adults I’ve interviewed recently and I would have no hesitation in interviewing him for real once he leaves school. That’s our future workforce in the making and from what I have seen, local employers need to look no further!”

Growth rooted in community

“However, our roots will always remain in the Bolsover District and we’ll remain a family-run business who care about our people. It’s our home.
