Students from The Bolsover School took part in an inspiring and hands‑on visit to the Bolsover Engagement Hub on Thursday 14 May, where they explored how towns grow and change and shared their own ideas for the future of Bolsover.

The Engagement Hub, based at 8 Cotton Street, is a creative space in the heart of the town centre. It has been designed to give local people, including young people, the opportunity to influence Bolsover District Council’s £15 million regeneration plans and contribute directly to the town’s long‑term vision.
During the visit, pupils took part in a series of interactive activities based on real processes used in town planning and regeneration. They shared thoughtful ideas at themed blackboard stations, offering creative suggestions on youth spaces, public art, green areas and ways to make the town centre more inviting. Students also gained a valuable insight into how different Council teams work, from planning and regeneration to safety, business support and environmental health, and how each service plays a role in shaping the place they call home.
The session concluded with a short careers activity, giving pupils the chance to reflect on their future aspirations and the kinds of opportunities and support that would help them achieve their goals.
The visit formed part of the Council’s wider Place Programme, which focuses on improving the town centre, supporting young people and families, encouraging creativity and wellbeing, and gathering community views to guide long‑term investment.
Heather Gunn, Tourism and Place Manager for Bolsover District Council, said:
“Young people’s voices are essential in shaping a town that works for everyone. Their ideas, creativity and lived experience help us understand what matters most, and where future investment can make the biggest difference. We look forward to welcoming more groups of young people into the Hub.”
Thanks to The Bolsover School for taking part and for contributing thoughtful, creative ideas to help shape a thriving and future‑focused Bolsover.
