Enjoy this dog-friendly family weekend itinerary including a scenic walk along the Pleasley Pit Trail and dinner at the East Midlands Designer Outlet, which is conveniently close to your hotel:

Day 1: Saturday – History, Nature, and Local Delights


Start your day at Bolsover Castle – dogs are welcome on leads in the extensive grounds.

Wander the beautiful gardens, admire sweeping countryside views, and let the kids enjoy the castle-themed outdoor play area.

📍 English Heritage site – family-friendly and perfect for a relaxed morning.

Lunch: Picnic at the Castle Grounds

Pack a lunch to enjoy in the scenic picnic area with castle views.

Alternatively, grab something from the on-site café (outdoor seating available for you and your pooch).




Head to Pleasley Pit, a hidden gem just a short drive away.

Take a gentle walk along the Pleasley Pit Trail – a mix of history and nature. Dogs on leads are welcome, and kids will enjoy the industrial heritage features and varied wildlife.

Day 2: Sunday – Woods, Walks, and Wanders


Start your day with a peaceful 2-mile stroll on the Red Trail through Whitwell Wood.

A gentle woodland loop suitable for all ages – don’t forget to pack some doggy treats for your four-legged explorer!


Lunch: Local Dog-Friendly Café Stop

Enjoy a light lunch at Home | No4. Recharge with sandwiches, hot drinks, and maybe a treat for your pup too.



Walk off lunch with a self-guided tour around Bolsover Town, discovering historic buildings, local shops, and the impressive Town Hall. Ideal for curious kids and history-loving grownups.


On your way back, head to the Welbeck Estate – a stunning 15,000-acre estate that combines nature, history, and local craftsmanship.

  • Welbeck Farm Shop: A delightful spot to stock up on local produce, artisan treats, and homemade goods. They often have a selection of fresh, organic, and sustainable products perfect for the road.
